Steve "Bomber" Brown helped lead a crack team of darters from Bristol to victory in the British "Champions of champions” event at the Magna event centre in Rotherham at the weekend.

Bombers super league team from Bristol battled through a tough field of the best teams from England, Scotland and Wales in the 9 man event. Victory was made even sweeter for Brown as his 13 year old son John joined him on the winner’s podium after competing for the first time in this prestigious event.

"We'd lost in the final last year and that was the closest any team from Bristol had come to lifting the coveted title" said Brown. The Bristol North team finished top of a strong group seeing off champions from Middlesex, Cambridgeshire and Berkshire to move into the last eight.

Bombers Bristol team faced a tough test in the quarter finals against an experienced Merseyside team that included England player Robbie "Kong" Green. Bomber played his part with another 3-0 win and helped his side to a 6-3 victory.

The semi-final was a repeat of last year’s final, Bristol vs Yorkshire. Yorkshire had won the flagship event for the previous 6 years. It was with the match tied at 4-4 that "Bomber" produced a piece of pure darting genius. With "Bombers" match tied at 2-2 he had left himself 32 with his opponent waiting on a two dart checkout. "Bomber" wired double 16 with his first two attempts before stepping across the oche by 5ft. Throwing from the oche of the next board "Bomber" hit the match winning double to the delight of his Bristol team..

"The pressure was really on in last leg, when I blocked the double sixteen with my first two darts I only had one option. It's the sort of shot I produce at exhibitions but never under this kind of pressure. The dart must have travelled 15ft into the target! It was a great feeling" said Brown.

In the final Bristol faced Northumberland. Brown again a victor with a 3-1 win. Steve Grubb hit the winning double 20 in his match to clinch a historic 5-4 victory. "It's been a long day and I'm so proud of our team, said Brown. " I'm especially proud of my son John who at 13 years old stepped in at the 11th hour and played with maturity well behind his years, it's a day none of us will ever forget"
