BRAVE CAMACHO

Posted in General

Wadi Camacho was unsuccessful in his return fight against unbeaten Welshman Craig Kennedy last Friday (13th March).

The scheduled 8 round fight lived up to expectations and was fiercely fought throughout.  Southpaw Camacho took the fight to his opponent from the first bell and had success when pining Kennedy on the ropes. However the Welshman proved their was substance to his previous boasts that he would weather the onslaught and prevail. The fight was one of 7 quality fights on the night promoted by Jamie and Chris Sanigar and shown live on Eurosport. There was a real air of expectancy when Camacho and Kennedy entered the ring and neither man disappointed the fans. It was fought at a frenetic pace and both were landing shots at will. Wadi was marginally in front after round four but Craig was showing neat hand and foot speed  whilst under pressure and having to back off from the onslaught from the East London boxer.

By the sixth round both boxers were looking fatigued and Camacho was becoming marked around both eyes. He was now also being caught cleanly with combinations by his opponent. Although gamely still trying to hunt Kennedy around the ring in order to secure a knockout victory, Wadi was becoming ever more reckless and after hitting the floor for the second time from a  three punch combination in the seventh round the referee wisely waived the fight off.

After the bad tempered first fight ended in disqualification, it was good to see a closely fought contest and one that these two top quality professionals should be proud of. Kennedy showed class in visiting Camacho in his dressing room after the bout to check he was ok. Wadi although extremely disappointed can hold his head high on a very brave challenge.
