Bristol's Steve Brown had a successful weekend in Nulland Holland (27-29th October) in the European Pro tour event being staged at the Valk Hotel. Brown reached the last sixteen before losing to Mark Walsh 6-3. However this was not the whole story because the night before Steve hammered World number 5 Wes Newton 6-2 in a welcome return to form that has put Steve in with a chance of qualifying for the Players Championships in Minehead at the end of next month.
Leicester’s Jamie Caven also continued his lethal run of form that has seen him reach 2 semi-finals and a last 16 finish in the last 2 weeks as well as a blistering sequence of results in the Champions League of Darts. Jamie also reached the last 16 this weekend before losing 6-4 in a game that he will be upset at losing. After breaking Haines to take a 3-2 lead Jamie let John back into the match only for Caven to level the game at 5-5. Johnny threw a 180 on his first throw of the deciding leg to leave an all but impossible task for Caven. The good news for Jamie is he has now assured himself of a spot in the Players Championship Finals.
Stokes Andy Hamilton also reached the last 16 losing to Aaron Monk 6-4. Premier League star Hamilton will also be appearing in the Player Championship being shown live on ITV 4.
