SO NEAR BUT YET SO FAR

Canning Town Cruiserweight Wadi Camacho came up short in his challenge against Stephen Simmons for the WBC International Title last Friday night at the Braehead Arena in Glasgow.

The much anticipated fight shown live on Sky was fought at a good pace with Camacho showing discipline and skills not seen in his previous 13 fights. Throughout the middle rounds Camacho continued to pile on the points and at the end of the 8th all 3 judges had Camacho 2 points up going into the last 2 rounds.

Ultimately the need to tally up the scores was not needed when Scotsman Simmons launched a last round effort to retain his title. Catching Camacho flush on the jaw Camacho fell to his knees, after bravely regaining his feet the Edinburgh fighter let loose with a salvo of well placed shots and the referee wisely stepped in to save Camacho from further punishment with less than 2 minutes of the fight remaining.

The loss, although significant will not deter Camacho. There were plenty of positives in Wadi's performance. Camacho will now take a short break. Trainer Peter Sims and manager Jess Harding will look to get Wadi back in the ring over the next 4 months.
