After Ronnie Baxter and Darren Webster’s disappointing defeats in the first round  at the Cash Converters Players Championship Finals at Butlins, both players get the chance to earn themselves Darting immortality  if they could win the biggest and best Darts tournament in the World, The William Hill World Championship.

The tournament which starts tonight and runs until the 2nd January will see the top players in the World compete for  £1.25 million pounds worth of prize money and the eventual winner walk away with a cheque for £250,0000. The Sky Sports televised tournament , held at Alexandra Palace will show every throw live and for the first time this year will have it’s own designated Darts channel.

Both JBD players start their campaign on Saturday 20th, where Ronnie Baxter plays either prelim qualifiers Daryl Gurney or Scott Mackenzie.  It should be a comfortable night’s work for Ronnie, although the standard is so high now that nothing can be taken for granted. Norwich’s Darren Webster has a far more difficult task when he plays World number seven Simon Whitlock.  Although a very tough ask, Whitlock would be the first to admit that he has not been playing to the usual standard that he has been associated with. Darren as always will fancy his chances of causing an upset.  After last year’s magnificent performance against James Wade where he failed to take out his 6 darts to win the match, you can’t see Darren making the same mistake twice.

We would also like to send our congratulations to Steve Brown and his wife on the birth of their baby daughter Boe who was born at 8.38 this morning.  Both mum and baby are doing fine.
