WEBSTER, BAXTER AND BROWN ALL HAVE WINS

Posted in General

Steve Brown, Ronnie Baxter and Darren Webster all had successful weekends' at the 7th and 8th Players Championship Qualifiers in Wigan last weekend.

World number 19 Ronnie Baxter reached quarter finals on Saturday before losing to World number 5 Peter Wright. He is now assured of qualification through his pro tour order of merit to the World Matchplay tournament in his hometown of Blackpool in July. Ronnie also secured his place in the Finals of the Austrian Open in June by beating Brett Claydon and Chris Aubrey in the UK European qualifier on the Friday evening.
Darren Webster had another confidence building weekend reaching the last 16 stage on Saturday before losing 6-4 to fellow JBD Player Ronnie Baxter.
On the Sunday World number 38 Webster went one stage better before losing to eventual winner Robert Thornton, but not before beating World Championship Finalist Peter Wright 6-5 in the previous round.
Webster is turning into a difficult opponent to beat. With his pro tour order of merit ranking now at number 28. It looks increasingly likely that Darren will be in Blackpool and Ireland for the Matchplay and Grand Prix respectively.
Steve Brown also had a couple of good wins. Beating dangerous Ricky Evans, plus young Phil Taylor conqueror Aden Kirk. Steve's campaign came to a halt at the last 32 stage with a defeat against current BDO World Champion Stephen Bunting. The wins will do Brown's confidence no harm at all.
All 3 players along with Premier league star Wes Newton are scheduled to play this Sunday afternoon in an exhibition of Darts at Butlins at Bognor Regis.
